I don’t know how this remained under my radar for so long, but I just found out that The Walking Dead is getting a TV miniseries starting this October.

The Walking Dead is originally a comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics. It tells the story of life following a zombie apocalypse. Yeah, I know, it’s been done countless times, but this time it was actually done right. One of my favorite comics.

The show will be aired on AMC, with the first season having six, one-hour episodes. A four and a half minutes trailer was shown at Comic-Con 2010, and is available at the show’s website. If, like me, you can’t watch it (yay for geo-retardation!), try your luck onYoutube.

The trailer looks pretty good, and knowing the story, I’d say it has the potential to be a great show. Looking forward to watch it.

The 1938 copy of Action Comics #1, in which Superman made his first appearance, beat the $1.075 million record set at auction on February 25 for Detective Comics #27, where Batman debuted. Which in turn broke a record $1 million paid just three days earlier for another copy of Action Comics #1.

There are about 100 copies of Action Comics #1 believed to be in existence, and only a handful in good condition. This one was in a very good condition: 8.5 in the 10-point grading system:

For 50 years, the comic book was buried in a stack of old movie magazines from the 1930s. When the magazines were sold at a antique auction in Pittsburgh, the buyer was surprised to find Superman keeping company with Clark Gable and Joan Crawford.

Back in 1938 the Superman comic, boasting a cover picture of the red-caped hero lifting a green car, cost just 10 cents.

I’m calling this a “lightning” review because I don’t really feel like doing a thorough analysis of the movie. That would take too long and would be too much work. And I prefer just doing a simple review and not play the pseudo-intelectual role and try to find hidden significances in every small detail.

So, let’s get it started. My likes:

• The fight scenes are really cool;
• The special effects are awesome. It’s great that now we have all the tecnology to bring the comic book stories alive;
• Laurie Jupiter (Malin Akerman) is so damn hot! Guess where she’s from? Yes, Sweden…
• Rorschach is just amazing! He’s simply brutal, and presents us with a few gore-ish fight scenes;
• This is not the typical superhero flick! And this is a BIG plus. I’m not gonna go too much into comparing it to the comic book because I haven’t read it in more than 7 or 8 years, but I can tell that the anti-superhero thing is there.

And my dislikes:

• The movie is huge. Almost 3 hours. I understand it would be hard to squeeze it into less, but since it’s slow paced at times, 163 minutes feels a bit too much. Maybe all it needed was a toilet-break, and in this case the cinema is to blame, and not the movie itself;
• Rorschach’s dialogue is kind of hard to understand, due to his extremely hoarse voice;
• The silly jokes are completely unnecessary and a bit annoying;
• The background music for this one love scene makes it completely weird.

That was it. I’m sure I’ll remember more stuff right after I press “Publish”, but this is what I could get just off the top of my head, so I guess the most important things have been mentioned.

Now go and watch it!

It’s been a loooooooooong time since I’ve been to the cinema. I don’t even remember which movie was the last one. And I don’t know if I’ve ever watched a movie on it’s premiere…

So you can say that I’m pretty excited about this, even though the reviews are not that great.

Well, let’s hope that at least the price is worth the 2 pints I could buy with that money…
